Abbie hulkes
Abbie Hulkes is an experienced goldsmith and jewellery designer, with over eight years experience in the jewellery trade and six years on the bench hand making and repairing fine jewellery from gold, platinum and diamonds.
Not long after her shortlisting as a finalist by the National Association of Jewellers for “Workshop Professional of the Year”, she was scouted internationally by jewellers in New Zealand and Australia.
“Starting on the shop floor of a jewellery store at 16 years old, I knew I was heading in the right direction, but the world of sales wasn’t giving me what I needed. After two years in sales I met with a goldsmith who worked for the same company and we spoke about his day to day life. That was the turning point for me.
With that in mind when I was 18, I managed to land myself a traditional apprenticeship in Hampshire with a family jewellers. I learned from master goldsmiths in a busy retail workshop for four years, absorbing everything from repairs, remodels, bespoke, and diamond setting. I stayed on for another two years and then moved to Australia, to work exclusively with a bespoke jewellery studio in New South Wales.
Looking back at the last few years, my style and attitude has changed so much. I’ve aligned with my passions and learned what is genuinely important to me, and I want this reflected in my work.
Now back home in the UK, I feel I owe it to myself to grow within my own brand and work under my own name. I’m seriously excited to learn what is around the corner.”
